Expressing Gratitude and Making Caring Common

Are their people you are grateful for? Someone you’d like to thank? Mount Madonna School (MMS) Upper School Director Shannon Kelly recently came across an activity through the Making Caring Common Project that is geared to students ages 4-10, and designed to encourage children to recognize people to be grateful for and to show that gratitude the best they can.

“This project is in alignment with Mount Madonna’s pillars of positive character development, creative self-expression and academic excellence” commented Kelly. “Research shows that teaching children to express gratitude and acknowledge the contributions of others can lead to more positive feelings overall. When this gratitude is written or expressed personally, the effects can be even more impactful.”

The Making Caring Common Project is an initiative out of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Making Caring Common’s mission is to help students learn to care and think about others, seek justice, be kind, and to think about the common good. In 2018, MMS was one of the first schools to join the Caring School campaign. For more on MMS and the Making Caring Common Project, click here.
