A Brave Space: High School Creative Writing Reading on February 21

Creative Writing Reading Friday, February 21, 7:00-9:00pm

Invitation to Brave Space ~ by Micky ScottBey Jones

Together we will create brave space

Because there is no such thing as a “safe space.”

We exist in the real world;

We all carry scars, and we have all caused wounds.

In this space

We seek to turn down the volume of the outside world;

We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere;

We call each other to more truth and love;

We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow;

We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know.

We will not be perfect.

This space will not be perfect.

It will not always be what we wish it to be

But

It will be our brave space together,

And

We will work on it side by side.

The high school Creative Writing Reading is an annual event where students, faculty, parents and friends gather together to listen to our student writers read their works. Mark your calendars and plan to join us! ALL high school students are expected to attend the event as part of our English curriculum. Sharing stories and poetry takes great courage and vulnerability, so families and friends are encouraged to come support and celebrate the process.

  • Volunteers are needed for this event: set up before, picking up items in town (flowers, food, etc.), and clean-up at the end.  Please let Haley Campbell  know if you are able to help. She emailed a Google Doc for volunteer sign-ups on January 30.

  • This event is for high school students, their families and guests.  All are welcomed and encouraged to attend; however, please be aware that some presentations may not be filtered for younger audiences.
