Update: The track and field team will participate their next Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) meet today, March 26 at 4:00pm at Soquel High School. Go Hawks!
On March 23, the Mount Madonna School (MMS) Hawks’ Track and Field team competed at the North Salinas Invitational with 22 other schools from the Central Coast Section (CCS). Despite just nine athletes representing MMS at the meet, and competing against teams from much larger schools, the Hawks ran, jumped and threw their way to 11 medals!
~ Summer Howley placed first in the high jump, freshman division.
~ Maddie Erbe placed third out of 19 runners in the 100m, freshman division; and third in the long jump.
~ Liana Kitchel placed second place in long jump, freshman division, with a jump of 15’1.5″ breaking the school’s current record!
~ Junior Paola Jacobs placed second in the varsity high jump and fifth in varsity shot put.
~ Freshman Grace Timan finished fourth in 100m hurdles, breaking a school record with a time of 21.06!
~ The Hawks’ women’s’ varsity 4x100m relay team consisting of Erbe, Howley, Kitchel and Jacobs finished in fifth place. They ran a school record-breaking time of 56.47!
~ Sophomore Octavio Moreno also broke a school record in shot put, previously set by Tyler Sullens (’16), throwing a distance of 35’1″!
The Hawks finished fourth overall in the meet for the Women’s Freshman Division, due to the amount of points gathered from the freshmen team members, breaking personal and school records!
In addition to Erbe, Howley, Jacobs, Kitchel, Moreno and Timan, the track and field team includes Alyssa Manzur and Jimmy Bregman, 9th grade; Corey Mensinger, Oliver Mensinger, and Savannah Cambell, 10th grade; An-Mei Dasbach-Prisk, Ceci Rothman-Salado, Connor Murphy, Fiona Burgess, and Rachel Burgess, 11th grade; and John Dias, Noah Kaplan and Sage Turner, 12th grade.
