Mount Madonna School (MMS) is pleased to announce that senior Roger Hooker has been named a Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. Earning this distinction signifies that a student scored in the top 5% nationwide of the more than 1.5 million students who took the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
‘Roger Hooker is a highly intelligent, reflective, athletic, talented, witty and compassionate young man who has enthusiastically engaged in classes and activities at Mount Madonna School,’ noted Jivanti Rutansky, Head of the Upper School at MMS. ‘I anticipate he will be successful in college and career and go on to lead a meaningful life.’
Hooker, who lives in Santa Cruz, started attending MMS as a 6th student and is one of 18 in the senior class at MMS. He is one of about 34,000 high school seniors across the country commended for their exceptional academic promise.
‘The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,’ commented a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which oversees the scholarship program. ‘These students represent a valuable national resource: recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key roles their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.’
