Microbead Ban Passes the California Senate

Sep 9, 2015 — Thank you to everyone who supported the fifth grade and our environment by signing the students’ petition, contacting their representatives and sharing about this problem and bill to ban microbeads. Through a giant effort of numerous organizations, individuals and children Assembly Bill 888 passed the Senate 24 to 14!!!

Although this is an AMAZING VICTORY please beware that the bill was amended to allow for bioplastic beads to be used… the problem is that those beads can’t decompose in natural environments as they need very high heat to breakdown so they still pose a risk to the ecosystem. Celebrate the victory and keep checking your labels!!

THANK YOU from the 2013-14 Fifth Grade Class
