Mount Madonna School’s boys varsity volleyball team has received the Central Coast Section (CCS) highest academic honor by the CIF: “2011 CCS Scholastic Championship Team Award.”
“This academic award is a testament to these players’ work ethic and positive character,” comments Hawks Head Coach Elliot PK McDonald. “The success this team enjoyed on the court was a direct result of this work ethic. Winning or losing any game will have very little effect on these players’ lives, but the work ethic and character they have shown on the court and in the classroom will take them far.”
These awards were instituted by the CCS Board of Managers in 1985 as a way to recognize teams with the highest collective grade-point average in their respective sport during that season of competition.
The Mount Madonna team’s collective GPA is3.619. Team members are: Roger Hooker, 9th grade; Bryson Smith, Daniel Fust, Jake Getz, Joseph Frediani, Rudy Hooven, Willy Bryan, 10th grade; Alex Hooven, David Broz, Kabir Ahluwalia, and Ryan Alfaro, 11th grade; and Ben Mangus, James Clifton, and PK Hattis, 12th grade.
This is the eighth time a Mount Madonna School volleyball team has earned the distinction; the boys varsity team also received the award in 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008; and the girls varsity team received the award in 1999 and 2007.
