With the addition of the first prom in May 2022, Mount Madonna School (MMS) students enjoyed a tradition that has long been part of the high school experience for many young people. Next, the Student Government Association (SGA) worked together to add one more “familiar” tradition to the MMS roster – Homecoming Week festivities and celebration – this celebration of school spirit continues this month!
Homecoming includes a friendly “points” competition between classes. For each Homecoming event, students can earn points for their class. Get a class to participate in all events, raise the most money for Drive for Schools, and donate more menstrual products than any other class, and they can win the Homecoming Cup! Points will be tallied by Student Government Association President Sophia Manzur.

Thursday, Oct. 19
High School Girls Volleyball Senior Night
JV match, 5:30pm | varsity match, 6:30pm | There will be a Tailgate with food for sale at this event
Students can earn Homecoming points by coming to cheer on the MMS Hawks! The Senior Night honoring – will take place just before the start of the varsity match.
“Seniors Anya, Bea, Cy, Emma, Irulan and Ona have all shown passion, dedication and determination for years as Mount Madonna School athletes,” commented coach and High School Athletic Director PK McDonald (’04). “They have done an incredible job of embodying sportsmanship and representing the school during their time here. Please come and support them in their last home game on October 19.”
Monday, Oct. 23
Spirit Day
Students are invited to dress up as a “Dynamic Duo.” This is two people dressed up as two things that go together perfectly. For example, bread and butter, the Joker and Harley Quinn, or Han Solo and Chewbacca. Please remember to keep your creativity school-appropriate!
Tuesday, Oct. 24
Class Challenge: “Anything But a Backpack Day”
Students can bring something imaginative, funny and school-appropriate to carry their school supplies in. This could be a laundry basket, a pet crate, maybe a microwave? The choice is yours, as long as it isn’t a backpack!
Wednesday, Oct. 25
Fourth-Period Pep Rally
During the period before lunchtime, the Student Government Association will host various pep rally games for middle and high school students. One competition is the “Menstrual Mountain Challenge.” During Homecoming week, each class will be asked to donate menstruation supplies in favor of their class, then they will be asked to gather their haul and create the “Menstrual Mountain”. Whichever class can build the tallest Menstrual Product mountain wins and earns Homecoming points.
Thursday, Oct. 26
Fright Hike and Trunk-or-Treat
Trunk-or-Treat is an all-school event, with popcorn, treats and more at the upper campus overlook from 5:30-6:00pm.
Update – 10/17/2023: There will be a Tailgate with food for sale during the Trunk-or-Treat event.
The Fright Hike is an outdoor haunted house walk that will feature scary decorations and “live actor-scarers.” This year’s theme is: eerie zombies, living monsters and ghouls, with the terrifying Ghostface (from the movie “Scream”). The hike is open to all students (with parental discretion), parents, teachers, and the Mount Madonna Center community to participate in – if they dare to walk the scariest hike of their life! The Fright Hike will start at 6:00pm and will last into the dark of night, around 8:00pm, and there is an entrance fee of $5 per person.
Friday, Oct. 27
Halloween Dance and Homecoming Cup Ceremony
The Student Government Association will host its annual Halloween Dance to wrap up the exciting week of Homecoming festivities. The dance is from 7:00-9:00pm for middle school students and 7:00-10:00pm for high school students. There is a $7 entrance fee if you do not have a costume, and a $5 fee if you come with a costume, so dress up! Pizza will also be sold for $2 per slice. That night, after tallying up all HoCo points earned, the winning class will be crowned and receive this years’ Homecoming Cup!
Permissions slips are required for all MMS and non-MMS students; permission slips can be picked up in the MMS office or downloaded from the link below. Please note, completed permission slips must be turned in to the school office by or before Wednesday, October 25.
