MMS Freshmen and Main Beach 15s Team Earn Bronze Medal at Regional Tournament

Kudos to Mount Madonna School (MMS) freshmen Brigg Busenhart and Zac Clark and the Main Beach 15-2 Deep team on their bronze medal finish at the January 10-11 NCVA Regional Bid Tournament!

‘This is the first time a Main Beach boys team has medaled at any tournament,’ shared Rick Schroeder, team coach and director of the Main Beach boys program. ‘Although we did not earn the bid to junior nationals from this tournament, our boys are planning to compete in Columbus, Ohio in the summer based on their performance in the NCVA Power League this past season. This will be the second time Main Beach has sent teams to compete at nationals.’

The Main Beach15s team is comprised of players from all over Santa Cruz County, with players attending school at Pacific Collegiate, Aptos, Monte Vista Christian, Mount Madonna and two eighth graders from B40 and Santa Cruz Montessori.

‘Stand-outs from the tournament included Brigg Busenhart and Zac Clark of Mount Madonna,’ commented Schroeder. ‘Brigg was a consistent performer throughout the weekend, passing and hitting strongly in each match. Zac saw his biggest performance in the semi-finals on day two, when he led the team in hitting and serving. Both boys improved greatly over the season and should play a positive role with their high school team.

“I am very proud of what these boys accomplished over the course of the season. We had talked about being number one in NorCal and earning a bid to junior nationals for almost five months. To put ourselves in the position we did on the last day of the tournament was a very special moment to me and I am so thankful to be the coach of this team.”
