Mount Madonna School’s Model United Nations (MUN) Club participated in its first meet of the 2011-2012 school year on November 5-6 at Stanford University. Student participants in the meet were: Alyssa Feskanin, Lena Wiley, Pedro Aguirre, Renata Massion and Tobin Mitchell, 9th grade; Preethi Balagani, 10th grade; Amber Zeise and Kavi Duvvoori, 11th grade; Lulu Morell-Haltom and Quincy Mitchell, 12th grade.
Gazing out from the stage in the school’s Assembly Room, fifteen second grade students stood and collectively asked the assembled audience some objective questions: “What if you only had one meal a day, could you be happy? Could you concentrate in school? Probably not,” they answered. “Your stomach would ache, your head would hurt and your heart would be broken.”
On a typical morning at Santa Cruz’s Natural Bridges State Beach, children and adults can be seen walking, playing and exploring the shore and sand along this scenic stretch of coastline. On Saturday, October 15, some 25 visitors to the beach were Mount Madonna School (MMS) students and parents taking part in LiMPETS (Long-term Monitoring Program and Experiential Training for Students), an environmental monitoring and education program for students and teachers and other volunteer groups.
