Powerschool Data Breach

Update: Powerschool Data Breach

PowerSchool – a third-party, cloud-based software vendor used by Mount Madonna School, recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain information in the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS). This purpose of this post is to share important information regarding that incident involving personal information belonging to current and previous faculty, staff, and students.

In addition to reviewing the information provided directly by PowerSchool, you are encouraged to visit: https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/ for up-to-date information on the cybersecurity incident. PowerSchool will be emailing those affected directly beginning in February 2025 with further information about the incident if they have accurate contact information for those impacted. Some personal information involving demographic information, birthdates, limited medical information, and the social security numbers for a small number of previous students was involved. For clarification, we have no evidence that any MMS community financial data was involved in the breach.

PowerSchool is offering two years of complimentary identity protection services for all current and former students and educators whose information was determined to be involved. They offer this regardless of whether an individual’s Social Security Number was exfiltrated. Please visit:

https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/notice-of-united-states-data-breach/ and follow instructions to access this complimentary service.

We care deeply about the welfare of MMS community and will continue to do everything we can to support you. If you have further questions, please contact Ann Goewert or Nicole Tervalon.

Sincerely,

Ann Goewert | Head of School, Mount Madonna School

Nicole Tervalon | Director of Technology, Mount Madonna School
