With a parrot on her shoulder and attired as a pirate, Mount Madonna School Head of School Ann Goewert welcomes students to campus on the day before Halloween as they arrive for the school on Friday. A number of private schools in Santa Cruz County, including Mount Madonna, are offering in-person instruction with COVID-19 safety measures in place. While a handful of Mount Madonna School student’s families have opted to learn remotely, 154 of the school’s kindergarten through 12th graders are taking all classes in tents or outdoors where students and teachers stay at least 6 feet apart and each student’s temperature is taken upon arrival each day.
