Mount Madonna School’s (MMS) boys varsity volleyball team has received the Central Coast Section (CCS) highest academic honor by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF): “2013 CCS Scholastic Championship Team Award.”
“Academic excellence, creative self-expression and positive character development are the three pillars of Mount Madonna School,” comments Sidd McDonald, MMS Athletic Director. “We are very proud that our boys varsity volleyball team has been selected as having the highest GPA for varsity volleyball in the Section. The award is reflective of the emphasis that our school places upon academic achievement.”
These awards were instituted by the CCS Board of Managers in 1985 as a way to recognize teams with the highest collective grade-point average in their respective sport during that season of competition.
The MMS team’s collective GPA is 3.724. Team members are: Bryson Smith, Daniel Fust, Jake Getz, Joseph Frediani, Rudy Hooven, and Willy Bryan, 12th grade; Daniel Clifton, Luciano Jimenez, and Roger Hooker, 11th grade; Cooper Stevens, Pedro Aguirre, Sage Buzzini, and Tobin Mitchell, 10th grade.
This is the tenth time a Mount Madonna School volleyball team has earned the distinction; the boys varsity team earned it in 2000-01, 2001-02, 2004-05, 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2010-11; and the girls varsity team in 1999-00, 2007-08; and 2012-13.
