The Senior Legacy Gift is a Mount Madonna School Family Tradition
At the end of their senior year, traditionally the graduating class and their families make a contribution toward a program, campus facility or campaign that has meaning to them.
The seniors and their families have decided that the Class of 2015’s gift is money toward the landscaping of the new gymnasium.
In the past, gifts have included commemorative benches, a sound system for the Hawks’ Nest gym, cash donations to the gymnasium capital campaign, among many others. Mount Madonna School is deeply grateful for the many ways that our graduates and their families have chosen to commemorate their relationship to Mount Madonna School.
Because this is a gift, it is important that students and their families find the right gift, one that holds meaning for them.
This is a wonderful tradition that we all hope never loses its significance for our students who graduate each year. Therefore, it is important that the Class Liaison and perhaps additional parents/guardians within the senior class help the students to take ownership of the project early in the senior year. The parents and class liaison can especially be helpful to their children in determining a gift that is useful to the school, affordable, and can be completed within a reasonable amount of time. Finally, it is essential that the Seniors and/or a class representative notifies the Advancement Office of their decision regarding the Senior Gift, as this facilitates communication around the gift.
Suggestions for deciding on a gift:
- Obtain a ‘wish list’ from MMS early in the senior year
- Work with students and their families to decide on an appropriate gift by January/February of senior year
- Make the gift by June (if a project, complete it by June, so that all the seniors can see the final gift installed)
Traditionally, the Valedictorian makes the announcement of the Senior Gift at the graduation ceremony.
