‘Strange and Wonderful Thinks’: Seussical Jr. at Mount Madonna School

Join Jojo, a ‘thinker of strange and wonderful thinks,’ Horton the Elephant, the tiny Whos of Whoville, Cats in Hats and other memorable characters for ‘Seussical Jr.,’ a colorful, magical adventure that speaks not only to the power of imagination and determination of love, but also the need for compassion, humanity — and a recognition that ‘a person’s a person no matter how small.’ A humorous and at times poignant musical, the score is a ‘Seussian gumbo’ of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel and R&B to funk!’

A rich performing arts tradition and integrated arts curriculum make MMS performances outstanding. Put aside any stereotypes of what “middle school play” might bring to mind — think quality, great costumes, staging, musical talents and dramatic accomplishment. These kids work hard and it shows! Performances are December 13 and 14 at 2:00pm. All seats reserved, tickets are available at 408-847-2717. Prices: $15 for adults, $10 for 18 and under.

‘Dr. Seuss books has been in most of our childhoods, no matter what generation,’ commented Sampad Kachuck, MMS middle and high performing arts director. ‘Many parents still pass along the stories to their young ones. There is a reason. For me, it is the absolute invitation to engage in unbridled imagination and colorful playfulness. ‘Seussical Jr.,’ in turn,  is a high energy show that encourages bold characterizations, fun word play, as well as an upbeat and modern musical score. The libretto contains accessible and relatable themes within its clear story line. So it is a very good fit for middle school students and families.’
