The Gilroy Dispatch, Student of the Week: Saniya Lakka

The Gilroy Dispatch, 10/10/2014, “Student of the Week: Saniya Lakka.”

What inspires you?

The openness, friendliness and warmth that is so widespread at my school inspires me to be my own person.

What is your favorite subject in school, and why?

My favorite subject is Values in World Thought, which is an original social studies curriculum at our school. The philosophical discussions we have in class help me reflect and generate meaningful questions about life and my own values.

If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?

I would raise teachers’ salaries because their commitment and selfless dedication to teaching children deserves a bigger reward.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go?

I would love to visit South Africa, and lucky for me I have the opportunity to travel there this year, along with the rest of my classmates. In the past years, MMS high school students have visited orphanages, interviewed Archbishop Desmond Tutu and have brought back incredible tales to share with us. I’m looking forward to my turn on a fascinating journey.

Name one big challenge in your life right now:

Managing my homework with volleyball and attempting to stay organized. Luckily I have my handy-dandy planner!

What is your dream job?

I do not have a dream job yet, but I am hoping I will be able to discover it soon.

What are your three favorite things?

1. Spending time with my friends

2. Eating (of course)

3. Playing volleyball with the Mount Madonna Hawks

What is your favorite book:

The Giver by Lois Lowry because I love the concept of a utopian world portrayed in the book.

What do you want to do after high school?

I hope to study in a college suited to my needs and discover what profession I will take on.

Something that makes you smile:

Picking one thing that makes me smile is difficult, but the silly little jokes told by my friends always put a smile on my face.

Top three most played songs on your iTunes or iPod:

My top three favorite songs are all by Beyonce, of course!

1. Mine

2. Flawless Remix

3. Grown Woman
