Watsonville Patch, 12/9/2019, “5th Graders Are Marine Scientists For A Day At Santa Cruz Wharf,” by Courtney Teague.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — For fifth graders of Watsonville’s Mount Madonna School, class was in session at the wharf Friday.
Students learned about the ocean’s health by taking the temperature of the water and air; checking wind speed, wind direction and cloud cover; measuring the water’s pH and salinity; and more, thanks to some help from staff of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association’s Sanctuary Exploration Center, Mount Madonna School said in an email Friday.
Fifth graders also took to Cowell Beach to pick up trash as part of a class project on great white sharks. They tracked the types of trash found and shared their data with the Sanctuary Exploration Center. Read on Patch.com
