The plot centers on Elle Woods, a character who appears to ‘have it all.’ Her life is turned upside-down, however, when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting serious about his life and attend Harvard Law School. Determined to get him back, Elle uses her charm to get into Harvard Law. Once there, she struggles with peers, professors, and fitting in. With the help of her Delta Nu Sorority friends, as well as Paulette, a prophetic hairdresser, and Emmet, her academic advisor and admirer, Elle discovers her inner fortitude and sets out to reach her true potential.

‘ Legally Blonde is a fairly established choice among high schools that allow a little room in selection of more PG-themed shows,’ commented MMS Performing Arts Director Sampad Martin Kachuck. ‘As with our prior productions of Urinetown and 13 , there is satirical edginess to the subject material which high school students find alluring, relevant, and even realistic.

‘Based on the movie, the characters are broadly drawn; from frats and sorority members, to college admission officers to lawyers and yes, blondes, there is plenty of lampooning of stereotypes to go around, with ‘tongue firmly in cheek.’ We have characters that discover their own power of choice; that hard work and dedication bring internal, if not always external, fulfillment, and that our quirks, native abilities and even individualized wisdom can be gifts if applied positively. ‘

Legally Blonde features music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Neil Benjamin and libretto by Heather Hach. It is based on the Amanda Brown novel and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture.

Legally Blonde is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. 421 West 54th Street, New York, NY, 10019. Phone: 212-541-4684. Fax: 212-397-4684. www.MTIShows.com
